PrintSpace – Maryborough Printmakers

A group of Sunshine Coast printmakers recently took a very pleasant road trip to Maryborough to meet with the printmaking group now operating in their studio ‘Printspace’ in  Gatakers Artspace precinct in the historic centre of Maryborough.

Printspace provides affordable access to workshops, specialised equipment for workshop participants and experienced printmakers. Workshops conducted by experienced printmakers include relief printmaking, linocut, wood engraving and woodcut,  etching, drypoint and collograph, screenprinting, monoprinting, artists books and papermaking and recycling. That’s an incredible list of skills and activities for a small group that has only recently formed, but the Maryborough printmakers are an enthusiastic and talented lot. They’re also great cooks and served us up a wonderful lunch. Thank you!

Some of their equipment and library came from Maryborough TAFE. Their first press was donated and another bought with raised funds.

After lunch a session of shared ideas saw some lively discussion, some inspiration, and a strengthening of the regional print making community through new links and networks forged on the day. Thank you Maryborough Printmakers for a wonderful day and thank you Tory Richards for organising the event.

Artists and the public are welcome to enrol in weekend workshops at Printspace or to visit during the Gatakers By Night events when printmaking volunteers are available, held on the following dates for the remainder of 2016 5-8pm, 25 Jun, 30 Jul, 27 Aug, 24 Sept, 29 Oct and 26 Nov.

PrintSpace is also open 10am-4pm on the same dates for printmakers who want to use the presses. Charges are, $5 for 2.5 hours and $10 for 5 hours. Bookings are required at Gatakers ArtSpace please, 4190 5723. There is also the possibility to open PrintSpace on other days on request.

We will be posting information about workshops and playdays at Maryborough PrintSpace here on Regional Print, but you can also contact them through the details on our Print Groups page or find them on their Facebook page

    1. Christine, since you’re not listed as a printmaker I’m imagining you are wanting to change the email with which you subscribed to the blog. We can’t do that. I think you need to subscribe with you new email. Lovely to know you’re interested and why aren’t you listed as a printmaker?

  1. It’s small etching press, quite old I imagine. It is in the window of the workshop spaces in Gatakers Artspace. I will seek some information on the make. It is quite a beautiful little press and an enticing thing to have as a window display.
